Monty Richards - Chairman

Monty RichardsMonty has been working at Kahua Ranch since 1953 and currently is the Chairman. He has been recognized as an innovator for his strides in brining alternate energy to the ranch including a village power system, using intensified grazing to increase the capacity of the pastures and artificial insemination to enhance the genetics of the cattle. Monty is tireless in his community service which has included being a regent at the University of Hawaii for 16 years, a board member of The Nature Conservancy of Hawaii as well as many other boards. . He is a past member of the board of Hawaii Commission on Water Resource Management. In October of 2002 Monty was recognized by Agriculture Leadership Foundation for his work in the agricultural community. The Honorable Senator Inouye participated in the event.

Monty lives at Kahua Ranch with his wife and four children as neighbors. Family dinners are usually in the dinning room which is the only room large enough to hold the entire Richards herd.


 

Phyllis Richards

 

Phyllis RichardsShe met her “Hawaiian Cowboy” on her first trip to the islands while sailing on the Matson Luirline. Today Phyllis Richards is know in the community as someone with a helping hand and a kitchen always full of family and ranch hands. She does not even flinch when asked to prepare lunch for 50 very hungry cowboys. Here is a sample menu from Cowboy Lunch, with recipes for a group of 10.

 

 


Dr. Tim Richards, DVM
President & General Manager

Tim RichardsTim grew up at Kahua Ranch knowing two things. He wanted to live and work on Kahua Ranch and also be a veterinarian. When he is not running Kahua Ranch riding a horse or helping to separate sheep he is found at his clinic in Waimea working on his four legged patients. Tim lives at the ranch with his wife Patti, who works as a pharmacist at Kona Hospital, and their two children Lauren and Connor.

 


John Richards

John RichardsJohn’s passions are with the machines that help to run the ranch as well as sharing his extensive knowledge of the ranch with visitors. Whether it is showing Kahua Ranch via ATV’s or spending an evening with those who have come up for and “Evening at Kahua Ranch” John’s enthusiasm for his home is very apparent. He lives on property with his wrangler wife Amber, their son Klayton, and daughter Logan.
